The Point of the Sword

While in work rehab, I found a fantastic article in Air & Space Magazine about Flight Directors. It oopens with an interesting scene: On the first day of a new crop of Flight Directors, Milt Windler, their chief, instead of an attaboy speech, gives them a sobering reminder: “We got an hour-long lecture that this is dangerous business, that we are on the pointy end of the sword, and that if we screw up, somebody dies”.

It reminds me that in the spiritual realms, we, as Christians, are at the end of the sword. And the consequences of our actions reach far beyond the physical realm. We’re talking about eternity. It fascinates me that so many Christians have no problem telling people who they are and what they stand for, but are not willing to take the next step to make others understand that truth applies to them as well.

The Scriptures make it very plain that we will give an account for what we have done as believers. This will probably be as close to sorrow or shame in Heaven as it gets. In a brief instant, God will reminds us of those who are condemned to eternal torment, that we could have done something to save them. And while He promises to “wipe away all tears”, it promises to put a damper on an otherwise glorious day.

Being a Flight Director is tough. It takes total commitment. And it sometimes costs (read the article). But, so does being a Christian. It takes total commitment. And it can be tough. But the rewards are priceless.

Return from Hibernation

After nearly a month and a half, in which I was preoccupied with Christmas, family, and intense work rehabilitation of my neck and back injuries (which, praise the Lord, are now whole as they are going to be), I am ready to blog again. It’s good to be back to some sense of normalcy, which, of course, is a relative term.
